The microbiome has been implicated to be predictor of clinical response in UC, as one study showed that differences in the microbiome were predictive of how many flares a patient would have over the subsequent three years(1). In addition, other studies have shown that anti-TNF therapy responders and non-responders display distinctly separate microbiota before start of treatment(2). Another study showed that the microbiome can predict relapse in Crohns disease patients who withdrawal infliximab therapy(3).
